Long before I became an Occupational Therapist, I was a child who often felt different…

A young girl with blonde hair, tied in pigtails with pink hair ties, is sitting on a carpeted floor. She is smiling at the camera and coloring on a piece of paper with a black marker. She is wearing a pink T-shirt.
A woman and a young child sitting at a table with cake and coffee, sharing a meal together in a cozy, dimly lit indoor setting.
Cartoon of a smiling girl with long hair, cheeks blushed, wearing a beaded head covering and a scarf.
A woman with reddish-brown hair smiling, with a young girl with light brown hair and bangs, dressed in a white and plaid outfit, leaning in close to her against a blue background.
A man and a young boy sitting together, with the man grabbing the boy's hand. The man has dark hair, a beard, and is wearing a striped shirt. The boy has short dark hair, large eyes, and is wearing a white T-shirt and red shorts. They are sitting on a colorful blanket with cartoons, in a room with a wooden window in the background.

There were many things I found difficult to understand about myself and the world around me. Throughout my childhood and early adulthood, I experienced so many "big emotions", but I never quite understood why life often felt more overwhelming for me than it seemed to for others.

It wasn't until adulthood that I received a diagnosis of AuDHD (Autism and ADHD). Looking back, so much suddenly made sense.

That experience has given me a deep appreciation for what it feels like to navigate a world that isn't always designed for different ways of thinking, learning, and experiencing.

More importantly, it taught me how powerful it is to be understood rather than changed.

Hi, I’m Annelise

I’m a local westie who loves nothing more than a chat, a good feed and cup of tea in a sunny cafe with my Husband and our fur baby Bella.

I've always been fascinated by people—how we grow, connect, learn, and experience the world in different ways.

Today, alongside running blooming kids, I work within the Department of Educations School Readiness Funding (SRF) program, partnering with educators and families to build their confidence and capacity to support children's participation and wellbeing. I also spend time as a clinical educator for Occupational Therapy University students, helping to shape our future therapists.

No matter the setting, my approach remains the same—to work collaboratively with families, build on children's strengths, and create opportunities for meaningful participation in everyday life.

My approach

Although every child is unique, the principles guiding my practice remain the same.

Looking at the whole child

I use the Person–Environment–Occupation (PEO) Model, recognising that a child's participation is influenced not only by their individual strengths and challenges, but also by the environments they spend time in and the everyday activities they want and need to do.

Building strong foundations

Development is layered. Using the Pyramid of Learning, I consider how foundational skills such as sensory processing, postural control, body awareness, and emotional regulation support higher-level skills like learning, attention, play, handwriting, and independence.

Neurodiversity-affirming practice

I celebrate every child's unique way of thinking, learning, communicating, and experiencing the world. Therapy isn't about changing who children are—it's about understanding them, supporting their wellbeing, and helping them participate in ways that feel authentic and meaningful.

Family-centred care

Parents, caregivers, educators, and the people who know your child best are essential members of the therapy team. Together, we develop goals, make decisions, and create strategies that fit naturally into your family's everyday life.

Supporting regulation and connection

Drawing on Polyvagal Theory and DIR/Floortime®, I prioritise relationships, safety, play, and emotional connection. Children learn best when they feel safe, connected, and understood, so building trust always comes before expecting performance.

Coaching, not just therapy

Rather than relying solely on weekly therapy sessions, I work alongside parents, caregivers, educators, and support teams through coaching, collaboration, and practical problem-solving. Together, we create strategies that become part of everyday routines, helping your child succeed long after each session ends.

Let's get started!

How it all works

Therapy can occur wherever your child participates in everyday life—including your home, school, kindergarten, childcare, my clinic, the community, or across multiple environments.

My aim is always to support your child's participation where it matters most.

Every family is different, which means no two therapy journeys look exactly the same. While every child receives an individualised plan, here's what you can generally expect when working together.
